2010/08/13 back in tana
Sorry this blog entry is lame, I feel like alot of them will be, I tend to be lazy about this kinda thing. Send me letters. New phone calls from Rachel M in Cleveland and Rachel M in Knoxville. I’ll be back online at some point next weekend.
Exhumation
So I went to an exhumation last week. It had the atmosphere of an outdoor wedding reception with an open bar. I really do not know how to explain it well, so hopefully I can get pictures posted at some point. But what basic happens is that a family digs up their deceased relatives every year or so (frequency varies with wealth) and adds another layer of cloth to the body and places them back in the tomb.
Going to Ambalavao
So I will post more next weekend sometime, but basically this week I am visiting my site, Ambalavao. I have no idea where I am staying for the trip, and I am not totally sure what is gonna happen. So I will be able to let you all know what happened afterwards.
Party at the PCTC
We had a dance party last night with PC staff and LCFs and us trainees and I’ve never been happier to hear Miley Cyrus. There were heated discussions too about whose boyfriend would win in a brawl. Quote of the night “we all decided to leave America, which is pretty nice guys, to live here for two years, yeah we are a little bit unstable” – shayla. And I do not apologize for those text messages I sent to America about who would win in a brawl, you know who you are.
Culture
In language class today me and the other two girls explained to our teacher that there are sperm banks in America. Not as many sperm banks as money banks, but that they are there. Don’t worry though that is not all we talk about.

Oh, how I have missed your banter! You make me laugh. I hope you are settling in. I will do my best to get to writing, but the challenge may be in you reading what I write. My handwriting SUCKS! Thank GOD for computers! xoxox, my dear cousin

I’ve never heard of the exhumations before; that must have been quite a thing to see. Do you have any type of musical device with you that I can send you Party in the U.S.A. to listen to on?

Did you get your birthday card from us? Just trying to gauge the time it takes. We sent two packages in padded envelopes rather than a box, which might have been stupid. No tracking numbers on padded envelopes. Well, we’ll learn as we go, I guess -just like you!
Really enjoyed your pictures; keep them coming if you can.
Hope you can send a post next weekend to tell us about your site, and pictures too if possible.
The week you left I bought about fifty cards and figured I’d send a card every Saturday with a note about what’s happening in the great city of Bay Village, but that hasn’t worked out too well. Seems there’s not much happening in the “Mistake on the Lake”. But the Browns won their first exhibition game! Know that will excite you. Sent a Browns bandana to supplement your blue and red one – it’s a “Dawgs” kind. I’m sure it will turn out to be your favorite!! lol
We think about you so often and try to share news with each other. It looks as if you have a wonderful group of PCTs — and certainly a much different way of life. Congratulations to all of you.
Much love, GJ and GB
